VERMONT SCENERY PROJECT

Vermont Landscapes

This is an on-going project, that will eventually cover the whole State of Vermont. I am working with a high level of detail and have incorporated mesh-terrain into the project.

It has required re-tiling the entire state for accurate elevations and detailing even the smaller airports.

Well this project is moving right along now. The tiles are almost all set and I seem to be getting the hang of this mesh scenery.

Lake Champlain is almost finished now and I do have the adjoining New York mesh close to being done so I will soon add it as an add on to this project. I put in a few airports along there and it might expand into an upstate NY project at some point. Time will tell.

I have also started on a few airports in NH also in order to get the tiles to settle in so that will probably go into a designing stage soon as an add on.

A few additional airports were added. More inland and I'll probably slowly begin detailing them also but for now Burlington, Highgate, Middlebury and Rutland.

These are memory intensive files and they will run on a Pentium II system however I recomend a Pentium III machine with a 16 mb 3d graphic card.

These files have not been converted to FS2K. The reason is that they are meant to allow FS98 users the joys of mesh scenery. I have toyed around with Burlington converting it to FS2K, however I'm not entirely sold on the efficiency of FS2K as a simulator. Eventually I will either convert them to FS2K or FS2002 when it comes out in the fall if and when it passes the taste test. Until that time these files will remain on an FS98 platform.

As with earlier files the Northeast Scenery area of FS98 should be disabled. Unfortunately Microsoft wasn't very good at lining up real world coordinates in this area so everything had to be done from topographical maps. Its a slow tedious process but nevertheless accurate and rewarding in the end. I have recently discovered that I can convert older bgl files into ASD maps but I am not sure where I am going to go with that discovery at the moment.

I have added a file called Wintex.zip which is an optional installation. It replaces certain main directory textures such as Broadw.r8 and Cropw.r8. These must be in the main texture directory of Flight Simulator 98 for them to take effect. The author of these files is unfortunately unknown to me or the contributor of the file.

I have recently discovered a way of converting textures to winter effects with the Airport program but this entails and challenges my knowledge to Scasm so more researching is needed in this area before I implement any of these into this project. I am concentrating on my Detroit scenery for those effects at the moment and until I have them tried and proven will not bring them into this project.
